Doofus and Leanie #1

Back in February, I did a parody of a "Goofus and Gallant" cartoon, if you remember them from "Highlights for Kids" magazine that was in every doctor's office and dentist's waiting room.

I was having some concerns about copyright infringement, and I asked if anyone was interested in doing some drawings for some original items. I got a response from a Lean Blog reader, Mike, in New Zealand (what a global Lean world, this is!). His son, Ed, is the artist for this and future efforts.

The First Inspiration - Goofus and Gallant, "Lean Style"

One of my childhood memories was "Highlights for Kids" magazine, that staple of doctors waiting rooms. I was surprised it still exists, in print and (of course) web forms.

One thing I remember was the "Goofus and Gallant" cartoon in each issue. It was pretty heavy-handed in it's approach, drawings that compared what the "bad kid" (Goofus) would do in a scenario versus what the "good kid" (Gallant) would do.

I wondered, the other day, what Goofus and Gallant would be like if they were grown up and managing a factory or some other operation. Click for a larger view.

Maybe we can have a caption contest. What other Goofus and Gallant captions would you suggest for the photos above?

Is anyone here an artist who could draw our own less-copyright-infringy drawings for something we might call "Doofus and Leanie"???
